105SW DISTRICT GOVERNOR HANDOVER

The weather was warm and sunny, the food was plentiful as lions from all corners of the South West came together at the Swan's Nest in Exminster on Sunday 10th July to witness the official handover of the District Governor and Vice District Governors position. Weymouth & Portland Member Lion Mark Lockie handed over the District Governor ribbon to lion Lesley Chudley who in turn handed over the Vice District Governor ribbon to Lion James Mathers. Lion Kevin Moore became the 2nd Vice District Governor on the day.

WEYMOUTH EXPO A GREAT SUCCESS

On Saturday 23rd April Lions Kevin Brookes & Ryan Hope took along the Lions display stand and represented the club at the Weymouth Expo at Redlands Sports Hub. Organised by Weymouth Town Council, it was advertised as a networking event for local charities and voluntary groups to come together with members of the public to see what is in offer. The day was a success for Weymouth & Portland Lions Club with several membership leads and several grant enquiries from other organisations.

Members of Weymouth & Portland Lions were once again out in force on Tuesday 4th July at the Chatsworth Hotel on Weymouth Esplanade to celebrate the annual handover of the Club’s President and Vice-President positions. 40 YEARS SERVICE CHEVRON The second piece of business was to  present Lion Norman Stagles with his 40 years  service chevron. Norman joined Weymouth &  Portland Lions Club in 1982 Serving as Club President twice from1993 - 1994 and again in  2014 - 2015. He has served as Zone Chairman twice and Regional Chairman once and has been a cabinet members responsible for Leos. NEW RETURNING MEMBER At our April Business meeting members were delighted to be able to conduct two very important pieces of club business. The first was to welcome Lion Peter Crane back into the fold. Peter was sponsored by club IPP Lion Ryan Hope and the membership ceremony was conducted before the meeting. £500 DONATION TO L.C.I.F. UKRANIAN RUFUGEE APPEAL – MARCH 2022

UKRAINIAN REFUGEE APPEAL   DONATION Weymouth & Portland Lions Club, along with many other Lions clubs throughout the United Kingdom and beyond, answered the call recently from LCIF and made a £500 donation towards the Ukrainian Refugee Appeal. This would allow Lion's club's in Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary to access funding to help with the refugee crisis. We issued a press release and invited members of the public to join in our donation. We are pleased to report that a further £700 was donated by members of the public. £500 DONATION TO WEYMOUTH SCOUTS – FEBRUARY 2022

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club awarded Weymouth & Portland Scouts group a £500 donation. This was in recognition of the help and assistance they have given the club over the years helping at the Lions annual Motor cross on Weymouth Beach each October. At last year’s event, they  managed to break all records for the number of motor cross programmes sold on the day.

£500 DONATION TO M.V. FREEDOM – FEBRUARY 2022

On Friday 25th February, Lion President, Kevin Brookes together with Ryan the Lion made a very welcome £500 donation on behalf of the club to the Friends of M.V. Freedom in  recognition of their assistance over the years at the Lions Christmas Day Harbour Swim. Volunteers and staff at M.V. Freedom support the Lions with expertise on the water every  Christmas Day, providing a safety boat and also supporting the club as a very useful ferry service across the harbour to carry such things has swimmers’ kit. LIONS CHRISTMAS DAY HARBOUR SWIM Every year thousands of people line the harbour in Weymouth to witness this annual Lions event, which has become a landmark event for the town. For those brave enough to suffer a Christmas morning dip, the 70-metre-plus distance starts from the Cove on Trinity Road and finishes across the water opposite the Harbour Master’s office on Custom House Quay.
